Frindsbury completed the double over BCLH at home on Saturday thanks to another fine knock from skipper Sam Dudgeon to ease to a comfortable 5 wicket victory.
Winning the toss again, Dudgeon decided to bowl first without hesitation given the number of bowlers at his disposal. Matt Payne and Robbie Elliot were welcomed back and Ian Budd and Dhaivet came in to strengthen the batting after last week’s disappointing display at Yalding.

Payne, opening with his old new ball partner Gilo Mumford, soon had a strangle hold on the BCLH openers Gower and Haward, conceding only 1 run in the first 6 overs. Gower, so often Frindsbury’s nemesis in previous seasons, began to find the middle of his bat playing a number of powerful drives to the boundary and he looked well set for his customary half century against the first XI. Haward at the other end was much more circumspect and was regularly playing and missing against some superb opening bowling, which only emphasized what Frindsbury have been missing by not being able to play Mumford and Payne together for most of the season.

It took the introduction of Dudgeon to make the breakthrough trapping Gower LBW with 1 that nipped back to break the 50 run opening partnership. Haward then helped Frindsbury take their 2nd wicket by ridiculously running out Ryan to leave BCLH 73-2 at the half way point. Haward and Thahir moved the score on to 103 but by now BCLH needed to press the accelerator to post a defendable total as all of the Frindsbury bowlers were proving hard to get away. Unfortunately this proved their undoing as they proceeded to lose 8 wickets for 21 runs as first Ian Budd (9-24-3) the returning Payne (12-30-2) and Mumford (8.2-16-2) demolished a flimsy looking batting line-up to leave Frindsbury chasing 125 to win at tea.

Frindsbury got off to a stuttering start with Dhaivet falling early and then Rob Sait giving his wicket away with a rash shot to be out for a duck to the medium pace of Bacon. When Shiva was third out with only 37 on the board there were a few nervous Frindsbury faces especially with the dangerous off spin of Gower to come. However, Budd Jnr then joined Dudgeon at the crease and between them compiled a 75 run stand that virtually won the game for Frindsbury. Dudgeon continued on from his fine innings the previous week to score an excellent 57, being particularly brutal on Bennett and Lindsell and then working the gaps against the leg spin of Thahir. Budd Jnr, playing his most mature innings to date for the first XI, hit 4 boundaries on his way to 25 as surprisingly Gower was not called upon despite always being successful against Frindsbury in the past.

Following the late dismissals of Budd and Dudgeon it was left to Frindsbury stalwarts Budd Snr and Peter Elswood to complete another nerveless winning partnership to see Frindsbury victorious by 5 wickets. All in all a good weekend for the 1st XI who completed a winning double following victory in the club quiz on Friday night.
