Latest News and Match ReportsRainham v Frindsburyy (July 12, 2009)
Frindsbury travelled to Rainham with high hopes of remaining top of the table, but they knew that their rivals Rainham had upset them in the past on many occasions. FCC turned up with their youngest team of the season with 7 under 18s and only one over the age of 23.
The Frindsbury skipper won the toss and chose to bat on a worn but ‘flat-ish’ wicket.
The young opening pair got off to a shakey start for FCC and soon the tight bowling of the Rainham openers got a break through and dismissed the inform Tom Burt for an edgey 16. Ian Budd joined Mike Evans at the crease under the boiling sun and started positively overtaking Evans runs in just a few balls. Soon Budd was on 44 (after hitting 11 fours) and at drinks FCC were sitting pretty at 96-1. With word from the skipper to up the runrate, the two FCC batsman started playing some extravagant shots with both batsman passing 50 in the 26th over.
Evans finally fell for a brilliant 66 (including a six) in the 32nd over after a 140 run partnership between the youth and experienced pairing. The Frindsbury batsman decided to hit the ball and hit around Ian Budd at the other end. Ian Budd passed the 100 mark with 2 overs remaining, much to the enjoyment of his son Sam, who enjoys seeing his Daddy batting well. Some quickfire innings from Alex Carr, Dave Peters and Sam Budd (who also hit a six, with Mike Evans bat, showing him again how it is done) saw the FCC team up over 250 off their 40 overs.
FCC took tea with high hopes that their 252 score line would be sufficient to keep them sitting pretty at the top of the table. Their happy and jolly mood son dropped after seeing the ashes score which was on in the clubhouse.
Frindsbury took to the field and soon realised that they may have to work hard to defend their score as some aggressive batting from the top two in Rainham colours saw them up with the runrate for the first two overs. The FCC bowlers worked hard though to peg them back and bowled the next ten overs for ten runs and again FCC were in the driving seat. The first wicket fell in the 13th over after a top edge of Connor McCann was caught comfortably by Dave Peters behind the sticks. The wickets continued to fall on a frequent basis, with M Gracey finishing with figures of 9-1-36-2 and M Blown with 9-2-29-3. Rainham finished with 157-7, although runs were gifted to the opposition from Mike Evans bowling spell of 2 overs for 22 runs, and he wondered why he was under bowled?!?!?!?!?!?!
Sorry for the short match report lads, but I am off to Kavos to get drunk and sunburnt! Enjoy your week whatever you may be doing… I am sure I will!!
