Blog Number 1

Hello there fellow Frindsbury Cricket Club player/supporter! This is the new blog. We will try to keep it updated every month, to keep you up to date with the ins and outs of running the club throughout the close season, and into 2009.

Well the last month has been fairly disappointing. Having been such a successful year for the senior sides; both Saturday teams winning the league, and the Sunday League side in with a shout of winning it on the last day of the season, we looked to be set for a year of promising cricket next season.

However, the Kent League deemed our square unsuitable, so rejected our application to the league, meaning the second team now have to ply their trade in the 2A Feeder League once more. Also, due to an administrative error, we missed the AGM for the Kent Village League on Sundays, so failed to gain entry there also. We still keep our place in the Medway Sunday League (which we won the season before last!), and we are currently looking at out options for a second Sunday League team.

We have agreed a third Saturday side, and have acquired playing facilities, and are waiting on the application for the league.

Ground + Club

Last weekend, Dave Claughton, Mark and Dave Gracey did some work on the 'patio' at the front of the clubhouse, making it safer than it has been. Alf and Nigel Pullen have been working on preparing the square for another successful season next year. The outfield has been cut, and hopefully won't need doing again until next season. If you have any spare time throughout the close season, and fancy helping out with any of the projects or general ground maintenance required for next season, please contact any member of the club.

Well done to Dave Peters, who collected his Wicketkeeping award for the Under 16's Tournament, and congratulations to Connor Ashenden who collected his Bowler of the tournament, once again for the Under 16's tournament.

Frindsbury's got the X-Factor

Maisy, the five year old breakdancer, was the eventual winner of the first ever Frindsbury's got X-Factor night at Frogs Island. The event was superbly organised by Laura Winchester and Diane Hanshaw, and it was great to see some new faces at the club. Those that did attend witnessed one of the best dance routines ever to be seen in Britain performed by the Planks, and one of the most humorous stand up acts by Maurice the impersonator. How the two acts didn't make it to the final, no one knows! Thanks to the judges; Rob 'Louis' Peters, Denise 'Danni' Claughton, Emily 'Cheryl' Melville and Keith 'Simon' Hanshaw.

Photos, and possibly video, to follow!
